30 Years of CURC Exhibition, Goldsmiths University, London, UK
The Centre for Urban and Community Research is one of the longest standing research centres at Goldsmiths University, with a history spanning 30 years.
To celebrate the centres 30 anniversary, this exhibition takes a visual path through CUCR’s rich history. It showcases work from staff, students and alumni, exploring the resonances and dialogue between research at CUCR and alumni’s work. Selected research projects from CUCR members are curated alongside with works spanning 20 years of the Photography and Urban Cultures MA.
Highlighting the crucial role of the visual component in the Centre’s history, the selection of works provides a rich overview of research methods, implemented both locally and globally. Exhibiting practitioners from UK, United States, Canada, China, Colombia, India, Russia,
The curating approach shows the interplay between local and global, community and participation, with the use of sociological methods exploring the nuances and contradictions of modern society.
Tanya Houghton and Stefano Carnelli are both alumni of the Photography and Urban Cultures MA. Their combined background of architecture and commercial industries informs the use of materiality and different media in their approach to exhibition design.
